I run Windows, Linux, Mac, iPad, android, and a few other network device os's on a daily basis and like different aspects of all of them. Just to be clear, I'm not a fanboy of anything. ios updates prior to 7 were pretty solid for me. I had the same experience going from 6 to 7. Fortunately after a few months of problems Aplle finally fixed whatever it was that was causing the crashes. Still though, after ios 8 dropped and before all the latest fixes I promise my galaxy phone was more stable. The nice thing with apple that helps is that they tend to release a lot of developer previews, which allows development teams to test and fix things before the os goes ga. One of my favorite iOS apps stopped working (forever) after upgrading from 7 to 8.

For example ruby 1.8 was replaced by ruby 2.0 on the newer Mac platforms which cause some legacy ruby code to require updates to run.
Mac pulls out support for things all the time which breaks tons of stuff. Lately though I gotta say the Apple updates have seriously sucked and broke more stuff more often than android.

With the Android model - expect issues when there are upgrades in the H/W and/or OS. With the latest versions of the ISO and OSX, I can send text messages from either my phone or computer, answer or make iPhone calls from my computer and it is all seamless. Apple actually designs its products to be part of a bigger environment where the iPhone seemingly interoperates with the iPad and its Mac line.
App builders may or may not have information on the interworking of the H/W that could or could not be important for their app.Īpple builds fully integrated products with the HW and SW designed to provide an integrated product.
